Bulldog Begrudgingly High School's Mascot
ALLENBURG, MI - Pogo, an 8 year old French Bulldog, will make his unenthusiastic debut as Allenburg Regional High School’s new mascot, due to an injury sustained by the usual dog, at the annual Thanksgiving Day game, sources confirm.
“Having no experience as a mascot, I was a little surprised to get the call,” commented Pogo. “I understand that Perry, my owner, wants to endear himself to The School Committee but I’m not a big fan of moving around… and I certainly don’t enjoy being near children.”
Pogo’s physical activity has consisted mainly of short walks, and milling around his owner’s one bedroom apartment. In preparation for Thursday’s showdown the two have been going to the La Paloma Dog Park to acclimate Pogo with young people, and improve his cardio.
“When I was a puppy I had a 2’ vertical leap and I could lightly jog for nearly a minute straight,” Pogo added. “Those days are long gone. I'm too old for this stuff! It’s gonna be cold. It’s early in the morning. But hey, if I’m brought somewhere to sit around and be occasionally looked at, that’s what I’ll do. If those kids can become inspired by my yawning and complete lack of interest, fine.”
Pogo later admitted his main issue with being the football team’s mascot is he's really more of a “soccer guy.”
