Dog owners turned out in force to protest at dog control orders imposed by Tameside Council. Around 100 converged on Dukinfield Park with pooches of all breeds and sizes. Owners are angry that dogs have to be kept on leashes no more than two metres long which they say restricts the exercise their pets receive and they want more spaces where they can roam free.

Mission's Centennial Park will become the district's first official off-leash park for dogs. A portion of the park off Grand Street will be delineated with shrubs, where dog owners can let their pooches run free, Mission's parks director Ray Herman told council Aug.16.

SWAMPSCOTT - A committee raising money for an off-leash dog park is more than two-thirds of the way to its $27,000 goal. Members of Swampscott Park for Off-Leash Time (SPOT) have raised $19,000 to build an off-leash dog park in Phillips Park.
